THE INSPIRATION
It was years ago that the brothers, James and Marc Sabadin, having taken early retirement from the teaching profession, pondered the same question, how could they best live a purposeful life in service of their islands.
Meanwhile, initiated by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the School of Music had just formed the National Choir, which was to be later renamed as the Seychelles Choral and Music Society, under the direction of David André. The government had also built the first modern and decent sized auditorium as part of the conference centre complex in Victoria, the small capital.
INCEPTION
Marc Sabadin, who had spent most of his teaching life in the United Kingdom, and is an avid lover of classical music, had the inspirational idea of combining open-air classical musical performances with the beautiful vistas of the Seychelles Islands.
The merging of lush vegetation, palm trees, expansive beaches, creole cuisine, warm hospitable islanders and music to touch the soul was to become a cherished goal.
And over the years the dream has flourished, nurtured and tended by the many musicians and Choristers who have added life to the vision, and the vitality of beautiful music.
AND NOW......
The Seychelles International Festival of Classical Music 2008 promises to be our best ever, and reflects the skills, artistry and passion of all those involved in this prestigious event.
In moving forward the dream that brought about the festival has not been forgotten, and perhaps the only way to judge the success of the dream is for you to become a living part of it.
We offer a warm and cordial welcome to Choristers and Friends, old and new and sincerely hope that you can join us on the paradise found that we call home.
